I love the 'Obby 'Oss -- he/she is so sinister.
Not so many years ago, apparently, the Obby Oss had jaws that could be made to snap by the man inside. I didn't see the jaws snap and I think maybe they don't any more - though since the mane hung over the head a lot of the time, it was hard to get a good sight of it. That second photo was a lucky shot.
I thought you'd like the Obby Oss - the whole thing is so exuberantly grotesque. The Obby Oss and the Teaser (holding the club) do a wild unpredictable dance together through the streets. The procession stops occasionally while someone else takes over the management of the hobby horse. Too tiring for one man to do it for long. The teaser changes too.
The massed band of accordion players, with drums for percussion, is really quite remarkable to hear.
I was pleased with the photos. They were the best of a whole lot that I took. There are a couple more on Flickr:
