| A preface, of sorts |
[18 July, 2004] |
Months ago, yonmei kindly gave me a LiveJournal code. I warned her at the time that I would probably use it only for making comments. Since then, I've wondered, now and again, whether there was anything else I might like to do with it. Finally, an idea began to emerge. I think, before I put it into action, it would be a good idea to explain briefly what I am planning to do.
I read a great deal, especially in the literature of the past. Much of what I read is well known to literature specialists but not necessarily to anyone else. And some of it is, to say the least, highly obscure. Once upon a time I edited a poetry anthology. I enjoy anthologizing; or at least, the parts of it that aren't about trying to track down elusive copyright holders in order to clear copyrights. I like the idea of using this webspace to make a new anthology, a serial one.
The selection will be haphazard: there will be no central theme and no sections. What I shall post will depend entirely on what I feel like posting at the time. Because of copyright restrictions, nearly everything I shall post will have been published originally upwards of seventy years ago. Where appropriate, I shall lightly modernise spelling, punctuation and typography.
